7 Things to Consider Before You Start a Business

Even today when many entrepreneurs start online businesses, getting everything done from web design and branding to social media marketing services, starting a business is no easy thing for the uninitiated.

1. You’re never too old to be an entrepreneur

The tasks ahead may daunt you, as may the online technologies which businesses have come to rely on so much, but there’s always professional help out there. Ask lots of questions and use the gifts and talents of others. If your idea for a business is strong, it’s worth getting others to complete the tasks for you while you focus on the bigger picture.

2. Gut feeling is just as valuable as data

The gut feeling helps you get started, but it’s the data that often keeps you keeping on. Research everything to the best of your ability but if its a unique, innovative idea it may be difficult to get accurate data.

3. Social media marketing is not free

Don’t be deceived by the fact that you can market your business through social networks without paying anything. You do pay in a currency more precious than money – time.

4. Calculate all your web design costs and add 20%

This will give you a little buffer and and free you up to experiment a little more with new ideas as things progress. This is often what it takes to be original in today’s crowded online market.

5. Get experts to do the work related to your website and online presence

You don’t need to do it all yourself. In fact you don’t need to understand every piece of the marketing puzzle. This may convince you to finally get on your way with your dream business. Just keep in mind that you need the right people to handle your SEO, web design, branding, and marketing. Getting the wrong people could be quite costly in the long run.

6. As an entrepreneur you may work longer hours for the short term

It may take quite a bit of time and energy to get up and running particularly if you are on a limited budget and need to do a lot of it yourself. Technology helps you get things done faster, it’s true, but it may still take many hours a day to get started. Keep focused on the light at the end of the tunnel. Eventually your business should be working for you, not the other way around.

7. Being local may be harder than being global

Many entrepreneurs are successful because their products and services are sold online and therefore are available to a global market. Not every business is suitable for a global market however if you can adjust your offering so it is, you have a larger potential for higher profit.

It all boils down to being determined and positive about your vision for an entrepreneurial business. What’s stopping you?

Safe questions you can ask prospects.

You don’t want to ask invasive questions and put your prospects on the defensive. You want to ask safe questions that make conversation easier. Here are some examples:

* “What do you do for a living now?”

* “What do you do in your free time?”

* “Do you have a moment?”

* “Are you interested in the tax advantages of having your own business?”

* “What kind of business would fit your lifestyle?”

Start small. Start with easy, rejection-free questions. This will help make your sponsoring conversations go smoothly.

It’s a huge problem!!!
February 20th, 2012

It’s a huge problem!!!

A while back I did a training meeting for a nutrition company in Melbourne.

Some distributors came late and complained, “There is no parking!”

The training was at a meeting room in a health club, and of course, it’s January. Everybody is at the health club in January. They are going to work on their New Year’s goal to get in shape and lose weight … for only a few more days.

Next month, the parking lot will be empty.

So, there are two types of networkers in the world.

1. Those that complain, “There is no parking…”

2. Those networkers that say, “Hey! Look at all these prospects who want to get healthy!”

Yes, some people look for reasons to fail. Others look for problems, and they know that in every problem, somebody is going to make a lot of money solving it.

In network marketing, we solve people’s problems. We help them lose weight, have better skin, save money, get healthier, look better, travel, earn money and more. That’s why we earn money, big money.

So the next time we see a problem, let’s think to ourselves, “That’s a great opportunity for someone to earn big money solving that problem.”

Problems are our friends.

—————————-

The two big rules.

There are two rules for building a large, growing and enthusiastic group.

1. Sponsor new people.

2. When in doubt, see rule #1.

Blacky’s predictions: A psychic look at 2012 events.

Prediction #1

Again this year, it is reported that approximately 50% of all doctors will graduate in the bottom half of their class. By allowing these underachievers into society, sales for nutritional products should greatly increase.

Prediction #2

Personal responsibility and work ethics will decline. Many freeloaders will just hope for success, and will consider that their total commitment. You will see ads like the following in “personal” columns throughout the country:

Lazy, SWM, network marketing junkie looking for SWF with established downline for marriage and financial support.

Prediction #3

Inexperienced networkers who can’t sponsor people will jump to a new company, hoping that will fix their lack of skills. Again they will be sadly disappointed. Switching companies is not the secret of success.

Prediction #4

Marketing plan scientists will continue to debate the microscopic details of their compensation plan. Of course they have time to study and discuss this as they haven’t sponsored anyone yet.

Prediction #5

Many distributors will put their business on “hold” - waiting for “just one more thing” to happen before they can get started. They can’t move forward until the website video is revised, the new brochure is introduced, or the packaging is changed. They will grow old in nursing homes waiting for the perfect environment to actually start working.

Prediction #6

A new company will launch that insists if you don’t join now, it will be too late tomorrow. But what will we tell the prospects after tomorrow? This cycle will be repeated several times every day.

Prediction #7

107 new companies will start up with the perfect product, with the perfect research, with the perfect breakthrough, with the perfect ingredients … and their marketing mantra will be: “Our scientist can beat up your scientist.”

Prediction #8

Many unsuccessful distributors will blame their sponsor, their company, their pricing and the general market for their failure. They won’t realize that many distributors in their company are enjoying success with the same set of circumstances.

Prediction #9

Many unsuccessful distributors stop their prospecting activities and then complain that they can’t find any prospects. Resuming their prospecting activity never occurs to them.

Prediction #10

Prospects refuse to build a network marketing business while employed. They prefer to wait until it is too late, until after they are released from their jobs. These prospects will then insist that they start their network marketing business with a full-time income.

Nobody likes your advice.
February 13th, 2012

Nobody likes your advice.

Coaching and mentoring.

We all feel good when we give someone advice. It makes us feel important.

However, most people don’t want our advice.

Why?

We don’t want to change. We all have comfort zones, and that’s why we make our current decisions about what we are going to do. We don’t want to do things outside of our comfort zone.

So let’s say you hate using the telephone. You are phone-a-phobic. Your palms sweat when you grab your phone. Your heart races to 200 beats per minute.

Now, your mentor says to you:

“To reach your goals, you have to make 100 phone calls to cold leads every day.”
What are you going to do?
You are going to make excuses why you can’t telephone these strangers. You will report back to your mentor:

1. I don’t have time. I get home from work too late.
2. I don’t know what to say. I have to take a training course and memorize scripts first.

3. Let me rearrange the products I bought on my shelf this week.

4. I didn’t get to the phone calls yet. I have been busy chanting affirmations.

As mentors and coaches we can give great advice. We can see clearly what our student has to do.
But that’s not the challenge.

Our challenge is to help our student find a way to reach his goals with an activity within his comfort zone.

If the activity is not within our student’s comfort zone, the activity will not be done consistently.

No one wants to feel bad and embarrassed for a career.

So here is an example of what we could do:

Student: I want to qualify for the upcoming conference. I will have to sponsor 6 new people in the next three months.
Mentor: Well, you have already nuked your warm market. They won’t even give you a referral. What can we do to meet new prospects?

Student: I’m not calling cold, overworked leads. I hate the abuse. And calling strangers doesn’t work for me either. I don’t have the phone skills to connect with cold telephone calls.

Mentor: What other ways can we meet people?

Student: I could send out postcards and letters to get some leads, but I don’t have the money now. Same with advertising. No money to buy ads.

Mentor: What do you like to do?

Student: I like to talk to people in person who I have some sort of relationship with. I am a bit shy, but if I know them, it is easier.

Mentor: What can we do to find new people to make relationships with?

Student: I guess I could go to some adult education classes. There is a college that has night classes for only a few dollars.

Mentor: What else?

Student: I could join a Breakfast Club and meet other entrepreneurs, but I can’t get away in the mornings to attend.

Mentor: If you can’t join a Breakfast Club, where else do these entrepreneurs meet?

Student: The Chamber of Commerce has mixers every month. I could go there for free. But I don’t know what to say to the other entrepreneurs to break the ice and start a conversation about my business.

Mentor: Okay, let’s do this.

1. Enroll in a couple of night classes. I would recommend a class on business or sales. You’ll meet prospects there with similar interests. After connecting with them, you could approach them about your business.
2. Go to the Chamber of Commerce mixers. Great idea. What you and I will work on in the next couple weeks are some good “ice breaker” sentences that you can use at the mixer comfortably. That way you’ll have interested entrepreneurs asking you for a presentation rejection-free. Let’s start working on those during our next session.

Mentoring and coaching is not about having the right answers. It is about helping the student move forward within their comfort zone. The best advice in the world will be ignored if it is uncomfortable or embarrassing for the student.

How one pro builds his business
February 6th, 2012

How one pro builds his business.

I take experts to lunch every chance I get. Why? Because it is the cheapest consulting anyone can get.

Here is a gem from my lunch with an expert:

“I don’t care about prospects who are undecided. I only care about the person who is willing to work my system.”
This pro simply concentrates on building leaders, and making them successful. All of his focus and energy goes into a select few prospects who share his vision.

If you were going to earn $5,000 a month from a good leader, how much time would you invest in finding that prospect?

If you want to know more about building leaders, take a at these articals

How real people become millionaires.

It happens a lot. A caller pleads:

“I’m broke. I can’t afford a distributor kit. I can’t afford your opportunity. I want to become a millionaire. So how do I get started?”

The answer is simple:

First, become a “hundred-aire.”

Second, become a “thousand-aire.”

Third, THEN become a “million-aire.”

You see, if the caller can’t learn how to accumulate $100 after years of working, how will the caller ever have the discipline to accumulate even one thousand dollars?

It’s easier for most people to eat out at restaurants, play video games, smoke cigarettes, drink beer, buy non-necessities that are on sale, buy a new car on payments, etc. — than it is to save $100.

Until that pattern is broken, even the best network marketing opportunity won’t solve their problems.

Check out these three great prospecting questions.

Just a simple question or sentence can totally change your prospect’s outlook toward you and your business. Try asking one of these questions:

===> Do you think a part-time job would be better for you than a part-time business?

(Most prospects will immediately attach themselves to wanting a part-time business. Hey, working a part-time job until age 65 doesn’t sound like much fun.)

===> Starting our own business would cost a lot of money … and is pretty risky, isn’t it?

(Most prospects will agree and say that’s why they haven’t tried. Now they are open-minded toward a business if it doesn’t require a lot of money and is not risky.)

===> Would a $500 a month raise make a big difference?

(Gee, that’s $6,000 a year. That would pay for a really nice vacation, a better car, an occasional weekend getaway, or the minimum payment on the VISA card … This question is rejection-free. Even if the prospect says, “No” - that means the prospect might be looking for bigger money. And you know your prospect can’t get this kind of raise from his or her boss.)
